4 Cheap And Easy DIY Honey Hair Masks Recipes That Your Natural Hair Will Love
Alright guys let’s get real here: we LOVE buying new natural hair products from our faves black owned businesses right?
Also it’s January and we’re all broke following Festive season and Boxing day shopping spree, and we might need to do a bit a DIY to take care of our crowns and manes.
Well good news! You won’t need to go too far and to spend too much cash as we have something for you: HONEY!
Honey is literally one of those miraculous natural products for skin and hair care! It has healing, softening, purifying, moisturizing and antioxidant properties – so keep browsing for some cool DIY hair and skin care right before you book your mobile afro hairdresser with us!
DIY mask for dry hair: Honey and Olive Oil
What you need:
– 2 tablespoons organic honey
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– 1 tablespoon water
Applying raw honey alone can be a tedious process as it is quite sticky and you will need additional ingredients to help you smooth your hair mask. Olive oil is the perfect candidate as it is easy to find and fairly cheap. It also has a large number of benefits when it comes to hair: it contains anti-inflammatory properties, improve blood circulation when scalp is massaged, great sealant to keep moisture etc.
Mix the honey, the olive oil and the water together then warm everything over the stove or microwave – this will facilitate application. Don’t hesitate to add more water and olive oil if your mask is still too thick.
Apply from scalp to end and leave on for 15-20 mins before rinsing or shampooing.
DIY mask for scalp cleansing & dandruff: Honey and Yogurt (Yes, yogurt)
What you need:
– 2 tablespoons greek yogurt
– 2 tablespoons organic honey
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
Believe it or not but yogurt might be one of the best ingredients in your kitchen if you need to get rid of dandruff without spending half your salary on expensive hair products. The lactic acid in yogurt will help cleansing the scalp whilst its exfoliating properties will help dislodge stale oils and grime from deep within the hair follicles. Combine all ingredients and whip vigorously to desired texture. Apply mixture onto slightly wet hair to make it easier and massage gently, from scalp to ends. Leave on 15-20 mins before rinsing/shampooing.
Our tip: If you need a deep scalp cleansing you can add ½ lemon juice into the mixture. Do not use if your hair is already dry or damaged.
DIY mask for hair growth: Honey, egg & castor oil
What you need:
– 2 tablespoons honey
– 2 tablespoons castor oil
– 2 eggs
Here’s the hair routine that could help you grow your hair faster. There are strong cases against using castor oil by itself on natural hair as it is quite heavy and sticky – which could cause more buildups. However if you combine it with honey and eggs, it will most likely stimulate your hair growth, increase manageability and add shine.
Start by whisking your eggs in a container then add the castor oil and honey – blend everything to perfection.
Apply from scalp to ends and leave for 15-20 mins, covered with a shower cap, before rinsing or shampooing.
DIY mask for deep conditioning: Honey & Banana
What you need:
– 2 tablespoons honey
– 1 ripe bananas
– 2 tablespoon olive oil
Ok people, this one is an all time favourite. They always say that you should only use hair & skin product ingredients that you could actually eat, so here it is!
We would rather eat those bananas but don’t lie: there’s always 1 over ripe bananas on the kitchen counter (we never want to eat them, but we don’t want to throw them away either). This recipe will certainly leave your hair incredibly moisturised and soothe itchy scalp.
Easy-peezy – blend all ingredients until you have a creamy texture then apply from scalp to ends. Make sure you have scalp fully covered with mixture before covering your head to avoid drippings, then leave for 20 mins. Rinse, shampoo and enjoy!
Try these, you will thank us later. Let us know if you have any DIY hair recipes that works well with your natural hair. We would love to hear them!
